Target description

1.44 million metric tonnes of paddy rice produced in 2025 (growth 2023-2025 is +9.6%). Government’s Feed Salone programme reported that local production covered 73% of the country’s rice consumption needs.

Comment on Target

Severe food insecurity dropped to 13% by late 2025, from 23% in 2023, obtaining from the rising production. In spite of the increase in production, progress of 9.6% is not sufficient for attainment of 4.0 million metric tonnes by 2028. Sierra Leone’s rice-self-sufficiency has increased steadily from 2018, moving from historic reliance on import to producing 70% of its staple.
